Temperature
Do I need to purchase a separate unit for red or white wine?
No. You may purchase some units with 2 temperature zones. We offer a 6 bottle cabinet with 1 zone housing 4 bottles and the other housing just 2 bottles. The 8 bottle cabinet is divided into 2 zones, each housing 4 bottles.
At what temperature should red, white and rosé wine be kept?
Generally, temperatures of 17ºC or18 ºC for reds and 7ºC or 8 ºC for white and rosé wines. Sparkling wine and light delicate white wines are usually served colder than fuller bodied whites and rosé wines. Where you have a cabinet with 2 temperature zones we recommend keeping the temperatures as close as possible in order to stop the zones fighting each other e.g. 16-17ºC for reds and 8-9ºC for whites.
Wine quality and preservation
How long does wine last in a Vinoglass system?
Some manufacturers of cabinet preservation systems will claim that wine remains fresh for 6-8 weeks! Yes, this is possible and we have witnessed it but certain delicate style or older vintage wines will only remain fresh for 14 days, hence we recommend 14 days as a maximum time in order to ensure every customer is satisfied.
How does Vinoglass preserve the freshness of wine?
Vinoglass uses argon gas or nitrogen to dispense the wine. These inert gases replace the air in the headspace above the wine thereby slowing the oxidation process and ensuring every glass of wine served in fresh.
Does any sediment come through while dispensing the wine?
Each tube has a filter at the end so no sediment can be picked up.
Gas
Does Nitrogen change the taste of wine?
No. Nitrogen is an inert gas – it is odourless and tasteless although after a long period of time in contact with wine can taint it very slightly.
What type of gas should we use and how do we order it?
You can use food grade argon or nitrogen which can be ordered through BOC?
What sizes are the gas canisters and how much do they cost?
Argon comes in 5 litre canisters and costs £109 and Nitrogen comes in 10 litre canisters and costs £25. For more information about gas click here.
How much gas will Vinoglass use?
It really depends on how much wine you’re pouring. Obviously, the more gas you use, the more wine you will be selling. To calculate how much gas you’re likely to use see the section on gas.
Maintenance
What kind of maintenance should I perform on my unit?
Vinoglass requires little maintenance. The systems will last for years as long as they are kept clean. Once a week, all the spouts should be rinsed in hot water and once every 3-4 weeks, we recommend cleaning the tubes to the wine bottles with a citric cleaning solution. This takes about 5 to 10 minutes. You can order this cleaning solution through our sales website at www.vintellect.co.uk
Are parts easily replaceable?
Yes. All Vinoglass parts are easily replaceable. Simply call or email us. All contact details can be found at www.vintellect.co.uk
